The Lawyer’s English Language Coursebook 2024 is a complete introduction to commercial legal English. It contains practical study material, including legal reading and writing exercises and a full answer key. It is the perfect starting point for learners who are at pre-intermediate level in general English and continues all the way to a high-intermediate level of legal English. Learners can use this book over a long period of time, if necessary.
The first book teaches a lot of new words and has many exercises to help you remember them. It also teaches the most important aspects of the common law for lawyers from a civil code jurisdiction.
The second book then introduces more complex tasks using the same vocabulary, as well as introducing even more new words and some listening exercises based on real cases. The second book builds very carefully on knowledge from the first, so these two books together will give you a complete course of self-study in professional legal English.
The author, Catherine Mason, intended students to study both books and we highly recommend this as a course to lift your legal English to a very high level.

Please note that the study module on ‘Modern Letter Writing’ is the same in both volumes as it is not practical or helpful to study this material at two different levels.
